The Interdisciplinary Master`s Program in Organizations and Development – PMOD at FAE is accredited by the Ministry of Education and CAPES and approved by the CNE (Ordinance No. 1919, 03/06/2005).

Concentration Area: Organizations and Social-Economic Dynamics

OBJECTIVE

The Master’s Program at FAE aims to promote learning and research activities of interdisciplinary nature, helping students to produce and disseminate knowledge about organizations and development in general. Interdisciplinarity related to Organization and Development problems is a key component for the studies and researches to be carried out by students and faculty.

Maximum admission limit: 20 (10 per research track)

Research tracks:

  • Public Policies and Development
  • Organizations, Government and Management Styles

TRACK I: Public Policies and Development

Investigates the local and regional development processes, relating them to national and international historical and contextual movements, focusing on public policies and their impacts on the community, considering the social management and sustainable and environmental programs proposed.

Some of the topics researched include: public policies and local and regional development; globalization and internationalization; Local Productive Arrangements – LPAs; social, environmental and economic development theories; sustainability and environment; technological innovation; political economy.

TRACK II: Organizations, Government and Management Styles

Investigates different types of organizations, public and private, independent of their structure and purpose, considering the different styles of management that guide them (heterogeneous, participative, collective, cooperative, and self-management) and their practices, with the aim to reveal their relationships and understand them thoroughly.

Some of the topics researched include: critical theory; Government; the Political Economy of Power, production restructuring; organizational strategies; work processes and relations; alternative ways and practices of management; epistemology and theory in social studies.

The research tracks complement each other and are integrated. Both deal with macro- and micro-social perspectives: Track I emphasizes macro-social analysis while Track II emphasis the micro-social analysis (organizational).

PROGRAM CURRICULUM

In order to be awarded the degree, the graduate students must complete the following credits:

Total = 40 credit hours

  • 12 credits from the core curriculum (the same courses for both tracks)
  • 06 credits from the core curriculum of the selected research track
  • 06 credits from the elective courses of the selected research track
  • 16 dissertation credits

All Master’s students are required to participate in a Practicum Program and in the Research Track Week (Semana de Atividades das Linhas), which involves planning (objectives, actions, projects, products, etc), performance evaluation and seminars. These activities are not for credit, thus they will not be counted towards their degree.
